CryptoCurrency Market Cap Explained

On the heels of a meteoric bull run, the crypto markets now have a $500 billion market cap, an all-time high. And that number is simply too big. But what is market capitalisation, why does it matter, and how can it help evaluate a coin? We’ll know the reason behind now.

Market capitalisation is a well-known metric for conventional securities, but has unique implications in crypto. Security will be measured and checked by the use of market cap. This works by multiplying the amount of outstanding stock shares by the current stock price. Nevertheless, crypto is calculated by circulating supply of tokens multiplied by current value. If a coin has got 100 tokens outstanding and is trading for $10 a coin, it has a market cap of $1000. As for now there are $17 million bitcoins which leads to the price of $9300. Bitcoin’s market cap, as a result, is approximately $158 billion.

Normally, ratios and financial metrics are utilized to measure the stocks and bonds. Measures like price-to-earnings ratio, earnings per share, the present ratio, earnings growth, and so on are used to examine stocks. You could use market cap since it gives steps concerning how to learn on evaluating cryptocurrency because crypto teams doesn’t publish financial statements always. Today, bitcoin is approximately $159 billion. Ethereum is the second-biggest, at $67 billion. Ripple ($33 billion, Bitcoin Cash ($25 billion), and EOS ($17 billion) round out the top 5.
